Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) Program

City of Bellaire Wastewater CDBG-MIT Project

 Request for Citizen Comments

The City of Bellaire intends to request grant funding through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) program. The funding for this program is provided by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and is designated for natural hazard mitigation projects. HUD defines mitigation as:

Activities that increase resilience to disasters and reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of loss of life, injury, damage to and loss of property, and suffering or hardship, by lessening the impact of future disasters.

Activities that are eligible for funding include the improvement of public works, public facilities, and others allowed by law.   At least 50% of the funds must be used to benefit low- and moderate-income persons and no displacement of persons will be proposed.

The city is proposing to abandon the City’s existing wastewater facilities and provide alternate service options.  The total project cost is estimated at $65,084,212,.00.

In accordance with GLO requirements, the City of Bellaire requests public comment on this application.

All citizens, including those within the project area, are encouraged to submit comments on the proposed activities.

Comments may be provided via email (cob-cdbg-mit@bellairetx.gov) or in writing at City Hall (7008 South Rice Avenue, Bellaire, TX 77401).

All comments received prior to the deadline will be reviewed and considered. Those that require a response will be responded to within seven days.
