The Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) presented its prestigious Lone Star Recreation Programming Achievement Award to Bellaire Parks and Recreation for The Great Pumpkin Hunt event. The presentation was made on March 2 at the 2012 TRAPS, (Texas Recreation and Park Society) Annual Institute and Trade Show held in The Woodlands, Texas. The TRAPS Lone Star Recreation Programming Award is presented annually to organizations that excel in the areas of innovative and effective programming from across the state of Texas.
The Great Pumpkin Hunt, held in October of 2011, invited kids to come dressed in their Halloween best to hunt for toys, candy and prize filled pumpkins in Bellaire's premiere Loftin Park. Participants enjoyed hunting for pumpkins, dressing up, winning prizes and face painting! Community involvement included a sponsorship & volunteer support from Walgreens in Bellaire, volunteers from the Bellaire LIFE Senior Advisory Board and a canned good collection station set up at the event. The event attracted close to 300 ghosts and goblins and their parents and it is sure to become a staple in Bellaire’s event line up in the future.
The Bellaire Parks and Recreation Department is a worthy recipient of the Lone Star Recreation Programming Achievement Award for The Great Pumpkin Hunt and embodies the true spirit of the parks and recreation profession and the Texas Recreation and Park Society.
