6. Can I fax a completed application for employment?

No.

7. Can I leave anything blank on my application?

The information on the application is needed to process qualified applicants. Incomplete applications may be disqualified.

8. Should I turn in a resume with my application?

You may submit a resume with your application but it is not required.

9. How do I know if I am qualified for the job?

Each current position opening has a detailed description of the minimum qualifications relating to the position. Read the minimum qualifications carefully to determine whether your qualifications are a close match.

10. If I meet minimum qualifications will I be interviewed?

Interviews are not automatic. HR representatives and Department Managers work together to determine who will be interviewed. Preference will be given to applicants who possess the most relevant education and/or experience for the specific position. The City of Bellaire is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

11. May I send a resume instead of an application form?

No. However, if the deadline date is so close that you do not have time to complete the City application form, you may send your resume to Human Resources first (to meet the deadline)along with a cover letter stating the position for which you wish to be considered. Then complete the City of Bellaire application form and submit it to Human Resources within a day or two so it can accompany your resume through the review process.

13. What is meant when a position is "open until filled"?

Interviews may begin right away when an "open until filled" position is posted, and continue daily until the vacancy is filled. Then the recruitment is closed and no further interviews are held. If a job that interests you is listed as "open until filled", apply ASAP!

14. Who may I contact about the status of my job application?

You will be contacted if you have been selected for an interview.

15. If I'm not hired, will you keep my application on file for future vacancies?

Applications are considered only for the specific job open at the time it is submitted. If you are interested in a position that becomes available at a later date, a new application must be submitted.

16. What happens if I just send a resume for your reference in case there's a job opening meeting my qualifications?

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications and resumes received, we can accept these only for current openings. Unsolicited applications and resumes are not maintained in our files.

17. I don't want to miss my chance to apply. Do I need to check the Job Postings every day?

Although the postings can change from day to day, the minimum run-time for a recruitment is 10 business days. If you check the Job Postings at least once a week you will see all of the City of Bellaire openings in ample time to apply before a deadline.

18. Do I have to take a drug test to become an employee of the City of Bellaire?

Yes. All applicants must successfully complete and pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check prior to any job offer becoming final.

19. Are all employees eligible for benefits?
