Donations and Memorial Gifts

Donations

The library gratefully receives gifts of gently used books (please, no textbooks , magazines, DVDs, CDs, or mildewed or damaged books) with the understanding that any material not used in the library will be given to the Friends of the Bellaire Library for their Used Book Sales. Building space, security and lack of climate control limit the acceptance of rare books. Items will not accepted with any provision or request to restrict access or circulation. Book donations are accepted the first Saturday of each month.  Limit of 3 bags or 3 boxes per household.

Library staff members will not list or evaluate books or other items brought in for donation. An acknowledgement slip will be given at each donation once donations are once again accepted.

Memorial Gifts

The Memorial Gift program at the Bellaire City Library serves to remember and/or honor people and occasions through donations of books or monies for books, materials or other needed items.

Purchases Made With Memorial Donations

Donations are accepted at the library during library hours or may be mailed to the library. There are no restrictions on age of donor or amount. Although the donor for a memorial gift may bring in books, every effort is made to avoid duplication of titles already in the collection. The Library Director will work with this type of donation on an individual basis. All items will be purchased in accordance with the City's Charter and Purchasing procedures.

Memorials are acknowledged through a notification card to the donor and the family of the honoree. A plate is placed in each book and the donation is recorded in a Memorial Binder on display in the library.

For more information on the Memorial Gift program please email Library Director, Mary Cohrs at 713-662-8160.
